Sweet Google(y) Moogaly!

Google just started offering IMAP support in GMail. This is a feature that makes me happier than it should!  I despise POP almost as much as I hate using a web based interface when I don’t have to.  Now, with IMAP, I can keep my mail client sync’d nicely whether using the mail client itself or the webmail.  Mail will be marked read, forwarded, etc. between all clients just peachy keen.  Sure, for most users this doesn’t mean much of anything, but for me it’s great news.

I’ve also been considering using gmail to handle thetravesty mail server.  There are numerous times where it would be nice to have someone else handling things - especially people with lots of resources and experience.  It’s something to think about.  Currently I’m having no big issues so I’m certainly in no hurry to move things over.

The other thing to think about is moving the work servers over to gmail.  We’ve had a lot of issues with work mail, but the way things are set up I’d rather not try and get everyone set up for using POP accounts.  This switch to support IMAP would take care of a lot of those issues.  Lots of things to think about.  For the time being, however, I’ll just test how it all works with my regular home account.

Ithaca Beer After Dark

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007

Awhile ago the brewery attempted to get a license so that we could sell beer by the pint.  The theory was that we would have a couple nights a week where we would do a happy hour.  The town dropped the hammer on that idea though.  Still, they ended up purchasing a couple of pub tables and some pub chairs.  All of them finally arrived the other day and I put them all together, so in the retail front they sit.  They look good there - they make the room look a lot less empty, but still, part of me thinks they seem silly for being there.  Though it occurred to me that while they might not be overly useful in terms of the customer, they would make a great Ithaca Beer after hours.

Hey, it’s the random things that I think when it gets slow.
